3 Skincare Tips to Kick Off Summer

Memorial day weekend has come and gone, can you believe it? The weekend marks the start of sun and fun all summer long. And while this is good for your soul (and your vitamin D intake), it can wreak havoc on your skin – especially your facial skin. So, as you prepare for your fabulous summer activities, here are a few skincare tips to keep your facial skin protected:

#1 Apply sunscreen and reapply often.

As obvious as this sounds, it still needs to be said. Even if you’ve been out in the sun already this season, your skin is probably not used to long hours outdoors just yet. Apply sunscreen liberally, and reapply it throughout the day. You may sweat, rub your face, or go underwater. Even sports sunscreens wear off.

#2 Stay hydrated.

Again, this is likely a tip that you know already, but still important, especially if you plan to consume alcohol or salty snacks this holiday weekend. Sun, salt, and too many spritzers can dehydrate your skin and accelerate aging. So, make sure that you drink plenty water and keep your skin hydrated.

#3 Wear a wide-brimmed hat.

Baseball caps will work, but to really protect your skin from too much sun, try a wide-brimmed hat. If you don’t have one, stop in a tourist shop at the beach or lake that you are visiting. You are sure to find someone selling them, and you can also support a local business owner.
