Caring for Your Problem Skin This Winter

Winter weather can be brutal to your skin, especially for those who are already facing conditions like dry skin, eczema, or psoriasis. Cold wind and dry air can cause uncomfortable, and sometimes even painful flare-ups. However, just because you are prone to these issues, it doesn’t mean you have to suffer. Follow these simple steps to refresh your problem skin this winter.

Renew Habits to Strengthen Your Immune System

Conditions like eczema and psoriasis can be aggravated by bacterial or viral infections. And while you may not be able to completely avoid exposure to these things, you can reduce your risk with a few healthy habits. Wash your hands frequently, be mindful of what you eat and drink, and get plenty of sleep. These daily practices will help to keep your immune system strong this winter. So, if you have been lax about these things, now is the time to renew your commitment to them.

Reduce Stress

Winter often brings added stress. Whether it is pressure to finish off the year strong at work, school or even the holidays, many people experience emotional stress this time of year. If you suffer from psoriasis or dry skin, this can put you at risk for outbreaks. Stress releases adrenaline, which triggers the stress hormone cortisol. Too much cortisol causes inflammation, wrinkles, and reduces your skin’s ability to retain water and moisture. So, look for ways to reduce your stress this winter. Take a yoga class, practice meditation, or make time to do the things that you enjoy.

Control the Humidity Level in Your Environment

If you experience dry skin, psoriasis, eczema, or other skin issues, keep your skin refreshed with moisture throughout the day. Use a humidifier in your home and office (if you can) and try to keep the moisture levels at around 30 to 50 percent. This will help alleviate the symptoms of problem skin issues associated with winter weather conditions.

Refresh Your Skin with Plenty of Moisturizer

One of the most effective ways to care for your problem skin (and one of the simplest) is to use moisturizer on it at least twice a day. Apply a high-quality moisturizer right away after washing your face. Signature Skin’s Revitalizing Moisturizer is therapeutic-grade and has anti-inflammatory properties that help smooth redness and soothe irritations. It is scientifically formulated to increase skin’s moisture by repairing collagen growth. Use it daily along with the Revitalizing Facial Cleanser to leave your skin feeling renewed and refreshed despite harsh winter conditions. You will notice a visible difference in your skin within just a few days.
