Four Popular Skincare Myths – Debunked

When it comes to taking care of your skin, there is a lot of information out there. And while many of the tips, strategies and hacks for skincare are useful, some of it is simply false information. Today, we’ll look at four of the most popular skincare myths, and some of these just might surprise you!

Myth #1: Spa Facials are Good for Your Skin

Going to the spa for a facial feels good, no doubt, but is it good for your skin? Not necessarily. It really depends on what you are hoping to get out of it. A facial will clear your skin, leaving it feeling smooth and refreshed – temporarily. However, if your goal is to improve the long-term health and appearance of your skin, then a facial is not the answer. One study, published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation, reveals that spa facials will not fight the signs of aging, reduce wrinkles, or combat inflammation. Some spa products may help stimulate cell repair momentarily, but a good daily skincare regimen is a more effective strategy.

Myth #2: Higher SPF Sunscreens Provide the Best Protection

Sunscreen is important for protecting your skin, but a high SPF isn’t the only thing that you should look for. In fact, SPF applies only to UVB rays. There are also UVA and UVC rays. UVC rays do not travel far enough to impact your skin, however, UVA rays do. While UVB rays can cause sunburn, UVA rays can help you develop a tan. But, they can also damage your skin’s DNA and generate cancerous tumors. Your best bet is to find a sunscreen that is at least 15 SPF and provides broad spectrum care.

Myth #3: Hot Water Opens Up Your Pores

Has someone ever told you to splash your face with hot water? Not only is this painful, it is pointless. Granted, steam can open your pores, but you can reap the benefits of it in the shower without harming your facial skin. When you wash your face with hot water, not only does it hurt, it also dries your skin out by stripping it of its protective barrier. To get the best results, use lukewarm water when you wash your face.

Myth #4: Your Skincare Routine Needs Numerous Steps

Another popular skincare myth is that you need all sorts of beauty products for your skin. There are so many different cleansers, toners, scrubs, moisturizers, etc. out there. Some people may tell you that you should use a deep cleansing scrub on a weekly basis, or that you need a toner as part of your daily routine…the advice and tips go on and on. But the truth is, what really impacts your skin is the quality of the products you use, not the quantity.

At Signature Skin, our skincare products are made from the purest, premium-grade ingredients. You don’t need a lot of different products to get lasting results. Simply wash and moisturize your face twice daily with the Revitalizing Facial Cleanser and Revitalizing Moisturizer for a fresh, youthful appearance for many years to come.
