Four Simple Habits to Effectively Manage Oily Skin

Is your skin’s “healthy glow” a little shinier than you’d like it to be? Oily skin can feel like a nuisance, especially when there is a lot of oil buildup on your face. However, it isn’t all bad. Oily skin actually has a few benefits such as keeping your face hydrated and moist. On the downside, a very oily face can lead to clogged pores and blemishes. To keep your skin glowing (but not shining), try incorporating these four simple habits into your daily routine.

#1: Drink plenty of water each day.

There are countless health reasons why you should drink plenty of water each day, and here’s one more. When you drink at least 64 to 80 ounces of water each day, your skin stays hydrated. As a result, your brain signals your oil glands to slow down the production of oil in your skin. Hydration helps balance the amount of oil produced by your skin.

#2: Eat a healthy diet.

Eating a healthy diet is another habit that has many benefits, including improving the look of your oily skin. When you eat a diet rich in anti-inflammatory foods such as omega-3s, low-glycemic carbs, and dairy alternatives, you may be able to slow the production of oil in your skin. Studies suggest that foods such as dairy, processed carbs, and those high in sugar can impact your hormones and stimulate increased oil production.

#3: Avoid touching blemishes on your skin.

If your skin is oily, then there is also a good chance you battle with blemishes or have acne-prone skin. And one of the worst things you can do (as tempting as it may be) is to touch your skin and blemishes. Your fingers come into contact with all sorts of bacteria and germs throughout the day as they encounter different surfaces (your cell phone, door knobs, keyboard, etc.). When you touch these surfaces and then touch your face, you expose it to more bacteria that can trigger further outbreaks.

#4: Follow a simple daily cleansing and moisturizing routine.

One of the best ways to manage your oily skin is by following a simple daily routine of cleansing and hydrating your skin. Clean it twice daily to remove the excess buildup that can trigger oil production and hydrate it daily with a moisturizer. If you do not moisturize your skin, it can actually stress your glands to produce more oil.

Signature Skin’s Revitalizing Facial Cleanser and Revitalizing Moisturizer can improve the look and feel of acne-prone skin. Our facial cleanser contains glycolic acid which effectively exfoliates skin, releases and dissolves the dead skin cells that lead to blocked pores and blackheads. Our moisturizer contains isoflavones, which hydrate and protect your skin from environmental hazards that can increase oil production. Use both products twice daily to help manage your oily skin.
